Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Has anyone been to Kripalu since their make over? I hear they've got meat on the menu now. What else has changed? Someone suggested that they are trying to be Canyon Ranch for new agers, instead of an ashram. Anybody know what's up out there? ... bg

Expert Yogi Posts: 1738 Location: right where I'm supposed to be | My girlfriend/Yoga Teacher just came back from a stay there this past weekend. She said it was wonderful. For the first time she stayed in a condo/room (sleeps many) with friends, very nice interior. She didn't mention anything about the food but she did receive a massage and hung out in the spa. I'll ask her about the food. She goes there often so she would know.

Expert Yogi Posts: 1738 Location: right where I'm supposed to be | She gave me the spring catalog. Finally sat down last night to look what they were offering. Noticed in the back the do serve fish and poultry. Is anyone thinking about visiting Kripalu this spring? Thinking about going for a R&R weekend. Hey Bayguy, Canyon Ranch is pretty poshe. Been dying to go there but it's pretty expensive. Maybe for my 50th birthday with some girlfriends. Edited by mishoga 2007-02-07 5:20 AM

I've been tempted by the R&R weekends (or weekdays) at Kripalu, but there's just never time. The catalog is pretty extensive, 'though some of the programs are just not something I could connect to. I was thinking of the Krishna Das program in March, but it will probably be pretty crowded. .. bg

Expert Yogi Posts: 5098 Location: Somewhere in the Mountains of Western NC | I wonder if they allow horses at Canyon ranch?? Afterall, when I hear the word ranch, I think of a place for horses. It would be so cool to ride out west with my horse (with a trailor of course). Gyp could learn "horsyoga", visit cowboy country, I could get facials and body massages...then we can ride into the wild blue yonder. Sounds heavenly,

my girlfriend took me to kripalu late last summer, it was our first visit. I don't remember there being meat, I think eggs was the limit of non-veg in the meals. either way I highly recommend a vist, they were able to accomodate all levels of interests from mine, more of an observer than a yoga praciticioner, right up through yoga instructors.

I was there about 2 years ago and they had meat then - on some days they had various salads with chicken at lunch, like pasta salad.

Just stumbled across this thread. I was there a few weeks ago. There is definitely a bit more meat available at meals than there was a couple years ago, I don't think every meal but I recall BBQ chicken one meal and turkey burgers another, and various tuna or chicken salads fairly often. Seems like more eggs and cheese too. There were a few new options (simple sandwich bar lunch and dinner which always seemed to have turkey or chicken breast and cheese, with a panini grill to use; the Budhha bar with mostly very simple vegan food; and the 2 main buffets usually had one designated veggie and one non. Or maybe sometimes veggie and vegan.) Mostly, the food has generally gotten much tastier, not that it was bad or anything before but just seemed more satisfying this time. Lots of things I wanted the recipes for, which I wouldn't have said last time, like a great Indonesian rice salad, vegan potato salad, some yummy curries, and a tasty Greek foccacia that curbed pizza craving. That chipolte BBQ chicken was really good and I don't usually even like chicken much. I took emergency brownies and didn't even finish them. Definitely not Canyon Ranch, but there is some amount of new furniture and updates in public areas. Nice new waiting room for treatments that looks more like you would see at a spa compared to the ratty waiting room they used to have. My room was small and simple but looked recently redone with new bathroom fixtures, carpet, paint, furniture, pretty much everything. That was nice. I stayed in the same room type last time and it was very old and dated. Wandering around the halls, saw them working on a few other rooms, so maybe they plan on working through them all eventually, no idea how far along they are. They still charge too much for the rooms for what they are. For better or worse, there is wireless in the Cafe. Edited by aystam 2007-07-03 10:45 PM

My first post, so "hi". I went for first and only time this summer to Kripalu and definitely plan to return whenever time and finances allow. The food was delicious and I am not a vegetarian, which is mostly was. They had limited fish/poultry options and also a section of macrobiotic so you can go with whatever you love. The fresh baked breads are extremely addictive. I signed up for a workshop with visiting teacher. It was a really rewarding experience, as was hanging out in the beautiful Berkshires or my quiet, spartan room. Being able to drop in on yoga or danskinsetics classes or a musical performance were all part of the experience. Visitors of all levels (teachers, students, teacher training, newbies, etc.) were very friendly and also give plenty of space if you are just feeling the vibrations. My expectations of the physical building and rooms were low, so that worked out fine. Namaste - Asana Now
