Subject: WHY??

Why are yoga workshop/trainings so expensive.. they almost make it impossible to continue education. I am a certified teacher but would like to expand my knowledge.. as we all know being a yoga teacher isnt for making money...

just curious if there is a theory behind this .. im sure there isnt but just needed to vent!!!!!!!

Deb, If you look at the conferences only advertized in Yoga Journal or at Omega, yep...pretty pricey. However, check local studios--many of the same teachers put on similar offerings that just aren't as well advertized at these studios. At least that's the case in San Antonio and Austin. THey're not overnight vacations or retreats but maybe a half day on a sat and Sunday for like 60 bucks.

yup. most of my continuing education is done through local studios with teachers that are local or with teachers who are brought in. it's still expensive (in my book) but more affordable than going to omega or the like.

This is true. I'm going to a kundalini 3 hour workshop in a couple of weeks. $50. Not too bad considering how much regular drop in fees are for studios.

Deb, you're in Long Island???

Two reasons:

training and overhead

The lineage and training of the teacher deos have a bearing on what that teacher offers and has experienced. Therefore the compensation for the instruction should equate.

The other is a business rationale. With conferences the teachers need to be paid the space needs to be rented, and there are registration and administration costs. So those are covered and then a profit should be built in. That's the price we pay for being able to have access to "great" yoga teachers in one spot.
