I just taught a class with Kashmir for the Sun Sals. It was awesome! It was the London Philharmonic Orchestra & Peter Scholes rendition, so no Robert Plant, but for yoga, it was even better. They also do Stairway to Heaven and I think I'm going to use that song too for the first part of class. You should check out this CD. I bought it on iTunes.

Yes, yes, I know some of you don't use music, but it it's still great music even for home or the car.

Ahhhhhhhh, my Baby Boomers love Rock & Roll

I play this in class sometimes. It does have words but the students love it

Nice mix! Anything with Squeeze and The Police gets my vote.

Most of the music I hear played in class is more "traditional" yoga music: Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, etc., though we do get the occasional Bob Dillan and James Taylor. My teacher has been infusing her classes with Kundalini for several months, so we all know and love Snatam Kaur now, as well as Guru Singh & Friends. Girish came to our studio last month for a kirtan, and that was a great success. His music reminds me of Sting, very cool.

I change up my music so much. I can almost say that every wekk I try to make new mixes or have new music for the class. It depends on theme too.
If it's gentle, I play very gentle, soothing music. If I want a trance like state in a slow flow, I'll try to find intense music that almost seems to not be playing but yet sets the mood. I love Gabriel Roth for that exact result.

I'm starting to get into chanting music. I love this album "Loveland" by Jai Uttal & Ben Leinbach.

If you like Jai Uttal and Ben Leinbach, then you should get their "Music For Yoga And Other Joys". Has chanting, but lots more instrumental than you'd first expect. For the mood that it evokes, I like it as part of the soundtrack to my life. (ooh, way too deep for an snowy Wednesday morning!)

How do you send a link from iTunes? Here it is from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Music-Yoga-Other-Joys-Uttal/dp/B0001HK09S/sr=1-2/qid=1171458275/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-6559044-5860708?ie=UTF8&s=music

iTunes does have it, so just do a search on the title: music for yoga and other joys

Enjoy!

I like that CD. I have that on my amazon gift list.
I found this comany on the internet that had a nice 4 pack yogafit CD collection of active yoga volumes.
Anyway I told my mom to get that for me for my Birthday. They did order, over 3.5 weeks ago. No way of getting in touch with the company. She put a dispute in but still, internet fraud is horrible.
So anyway, she told me to send her my amazon list. So I'm going to tell her to get that this

Thanks for bringing that to my attention at this very right moment. Meant to be I have that CD

YES, I love walking on the Stairway to Heaven during Savasana.  I like the real thing though,

Another good song is, "I'm Gonna Crawl".  I love the music to this song and Robert's voice...such a classic song.

Then if you really want to get creative, "No Quarter" is another good mellow one.

I just want to say this though...NOT everyone listens to Led Zeppelin and/or likes them for that matter.  If you're in the bible belt, better make sure you don't play Stairway to Heaven backwards or anything....you know, those satanic messages that are there and all,

fate of nations by robert plant is a great album to do yoga to.

generally speaking, i don't use music during yoga (at home) and i tend not to use something that is this recognizable while in class (i use music as a sound barrier to distracting noises outside in the gym or whatever) so it needs to be more of something that can function as a backdrop. so, if i do play something like this, i play it very low in the background.

i also like metallica for yoga. they're awesome.

I've got the London Philharmonic Pink Floyd... but not Zeppelin!!! I'll have to check that out!
I think the Rain Song would be fabulous for yoga..Hmmm... I'll have to add that to my "Yoga Chill" mix..
How do you share playlists on iTunes? I've got some great playlists for yoga...
I like it in the background... it helps me focus...

Where all your playlists are on the left side, highlight the one you want to publish then click the file link on top and go down the list to "create imix". Follow links and fill information then submit.
Only thing is sometimes they don't take all the songs on a playlist.
Once you create them, you can right click the little picture (mixture of cds/your playlist and copy url then post here.
Get busy!!!!

I agree, sometimes music can be a real turn off in class. I took a class recently and the entire class was contemporary music with lyrics. I was thrown and could not focus or detach from the music. Savasanah was to "Lean on Me" and I didn't care for it at all.

This class was def a departure from how I ususally teach. But, it was sorta fun and the music was classical and still relaxing-of course, my opinion. This is something I'll probably only do twice in a year.

Hey Kym, I like to listen to music mostly at the end during Savasana.  If I listen to music throughout my entire practice, I mostly listen to something very stable and no words music, with the exception of Celine Dion...I am a rare person who can deal with her voice.  So, anyway, in the studio, our classes are very instructional, no music until the end, and I like it that way.

Somewhere recently we talked about music.  I really, really, really like Audio Visions on XM radio.  It's so neutral and great for yoga.

I love the synth on the guitars in "No quarter".  I haven't heard that one in years.

I guess that "Nobody's Fault But Mine" wouldn't be too good for Savasana...

I don't like any music for savasana, but have no problem listening to most anything for the rest of my practice. I know it's supposed to be soothing in a primal sort of way, but the gong during savasana in class really irks me. Same with the singing bowl. Highly irritating.
