Yep - I tell people that unless the safety of the world depends on them in the next 90 minutes, turn it OFF! And if the safety of the world depends on them in the next 90 minutes, they should probably not be in a yoga class, or grocery shopping or in their car, for that matter Yes, there are exceptions - we have one student who monitors earthquake activity and is sometimes oncall for that. She does put her phone on vibrate, which is especially appropriate, I think If you don't know how to put your phone on vibrate, you are either not needing it that badly or you are Mr. Tourist, the computer consultant who still gets his kids to program his phone The thing is, even on vibrate or whatever, there is still a piece of your mind occupied with the phone, If it is off, it is easier to let it go until you are done what you are doing.
