Subject: Teacher needed in Winnipeg

Hello,

I had a health center in Winnipeg, Manitoba approach me about starting up a Punk Rock Yoga class in Winnipeg. I do not know any teachers in Winnipeg, so I'm looking for an independent-minded teacher who is interested in teaching in this fun experimental style. Punk Rock Yoga is not yoga to punk music, it's yoga through the lens of DIY philosophy working to build a non-elitist approach to yoga. There's lots more info contained in the mission statement: http://punkrockyoga.com/mission.php

If you know of any teachers in Winnipeg looking for a fun new challenge, I would greatly appreciate the referral. My contact is yoga@punkrockyoga.com

Thanks for your time. Namaste, Kimberlee

Looks like a fine concept. I was a little taken aback about it being non-elitist; I never thought yoga was elitist.

Thanks. I don't think yoga at its heart is elitism (although originally people from only one caste were permitted to do yoga) but sadly yoga in the US has been very much subject to the economic class system.

If you know of any teachers in Winnipeg, I would love to get in touch with them.

Thanks, Kimberlee

Sorry Kimberlee, don't know any teachers up that way but maybe your posting will help. As an aside, I have yet to see/hear any signs here in Texas about yoga being subject to the economic class system. I see neighborhood yogga classes conducted at just $2 a class; books and DVDs at Half Price Books for $1. The local community colleges offer yoga (I teach there). Myself and others I know often hold classes and workshops for free--just for the experience. Maybe I'm sheltered here in South Texas but I just don't see the elitist barrier.

Ditto. I also think that the DIY is very much an integrated part of yoga. There is nothing more do-it -yourself than the idea that only your effects can effect your own liberation.

Hello,

Punk Rock Yoga is not yoga to punk music, it's yoga through the lens of DIY philosophy working to build a non-elitist approach to yoga.

I don't mean to pick on you, but if someone is not into punk rock, labels and the DIY philosophy, then, PunkRockYoga would be "elitist",

I really don't see any difference. Perhaps, these differences between exists only in our minds?

Anyway, best of luck on your endeavors.

Namaste,
Kaos
