| From Eric's mention of this pose in the Pasasana thread, I just have a quick question
When i do this pose, my arms are very bent like Chaturanga arms, I the photos of i've seen, the practitioners do this pose with their arms almost straight. how do they get that "height" to it, is it the rounding of the spine? do you engage uddiyana bandha?

| bent is fine. it'll straighten up more in time. and yes, it's both uddiyana bandha and rounding the spine. |

| You have to pull the knees way up on the arm. In other words, you have to be very good at twisting to do this with straighter arms.
On the opposite end, I've seen people use their other bent arm on their hip for extra support. So you end up using both arms to balance.

| Thanks!
When i do the pose with bent knees, i find i rely on both arms equally, but from Eric's post, is it that your focus should only be on one?
In order to extend my legs straight out, i find i HAVE to pull even further up into my navel centre and my weight shifts more to the arm against which the thighs lean
One of my 2007 resolutions was to explore arm balances and see what happens.

| What I was saying was that you can use your opposite arm to take some weight at your hip with bent elbows..Your can prop your hip on the arm.
You are always using both arms! Although I'm sure there is someone out there that can do it with one arm. You can even learn to jump into this from downdog... |
