Subject: John Scott

Hi all

Just wondering if any of you have ever attended a workshop with John Scott when you were a beginner? I'm currently working and travelling in New Zealand and an opportunity has just come up for me to go to Nelson, where John and Lucy have their retreat, and work for them in return for classes and free board.

This is a great chance for me to get deeper into my practice so I'll probably go for 2 weeks but would like to know a bit more about his teaching methods prior.

Many thanks

Aotearoa

John Scott is one of the best Ashtanga Vinyasa teachers in the world.

If you get an opportunity to practise with him I really recommend it. (He was also Madonna's teacher. Not sure if that's good or bad though )

Hi Jonnie,
Ha, it's funny, when I first started Astanga yoga, I met Madonna's yoga teacher. Then I met another one, and then another. I've met or heard of at least eight teachers who are all Madonna's private yoga teacher. Amazing how she can be in so many places at once. The same goes for Sting, who also did the blurb on John Scott's book-although why a musician is an authority on yoga and therefore has the right to jot down anythoing about yoga, I don't know-I've seen pictures of Sting practicing and he certainly doesn't look like he has practiced very much-or very expertly. Sorry, I'm all gripy this morning

He is an excellent teacher though (John Scott, not Sting that is ).

So I take it you weren't that impressed with the news that the Police have reformed?

I just got a fitness book from the library, written by a long-time personal trainer of Madonna's. This one is unusual because she actually wrote a forward to the book.

In the book, he happens to mention Madonna's yoga teacher (this was back when she was just starting yoga) as being Denise Kaufman.

I guess it's not like Madonna has to stay with one teacher forever!

Incidentally, the book is called "Fitness is Religion," and so far it's been a good read.

I have John Scott book and have studied with people who trained with him.
I wouldn't miss the opportunity.

Please let us know if he makes you do a full surya namaskaras between postures!

Eric

PS: Sting's body looks yoga to me? Cheer up Nick. Life is sweet!
