Astanga, Power and Bikram yoga (or any more athletic type) are most popular with athletes. Yoga improves concentration, flexibility, stength and balance. This prevents injury and improves athletic performance. It also improves the performance of musicians (especially singers and wind players), dancers and actors through improved breathing and breath control and improved body awareness and muscle control. Yoga is important for runners because they tend to shorten their hamstrings and tight hamstrings reduce range of motion and can lead to lower back problems. Yoga is also important for people who do strength training (weight lifting) as it helps to lengthen the muscles that strength training shortens. This leads to additional strength, endurance, flexibility, and range of motion.

Some people prefer yoga after another workout and some people like it better before. Try both and see what works best for you. There are advantages to both.

Cool--hey where do I by the authorized edition of the Yogagirl Phrase guide? For example, what's the translation of "ty i'mma..."?
You know I'm just mess'in with ya imi (imi, a phrase used to stand for "I'm done, your turn").

"wat is imi?"
Way back in the day before the internet, "imi" was used when we typed messages over military communications machines called OPSCOM (operational communications). THey were big ole machines that made a lot of noise and were slow but, I could be in Berlin and type to another military site in say Alaska and find out base ball scores and stuff. However, the OPSCOM machines lacked certain puncuation mark keys and you needed to be able to signify when you were done typing as the bandwidth was too narrow to allow simultaneous typing. So if you asked a question, you'd type "imi" and the end and that would signify that you were done typing and it was their turn like
WHO WON THE GAME IMI
Yankees over Braves 6 2 4 imi
Crap! But thanks imi

Through meditation yoga gives you mental strength to perform well. In sports and athletics mental strength plays a key role along with physical strength to perform better.

Yoga is a great compliment to any cross training workout -- no matter your level of fitness. Try Ashtanga yoga; it's much more than about stretching.
