I find that this group is always an excellent source of suggestions for books worth reading. At the moment I'm really drawn towards autobiographies, particular of people who really made a difference, or had some sort of guiding light. Not necessarily conventional spiritual leaders, or something like that.

I've just finished reading Rowan William's 'Ponder these Things-Praying with Icons of the Virgin'.

It is a simple book which shows how to 'read' icons.

I loved it.

Glad you started this thread. I was just about to post to find out who it was that posted the Annie Dillard quote a while ago. I picked up An American Childhood when I happened across it in a 2nd hand store. Thanks, whoever that was. It is a delight! Her writing is like butter - or maybe sunshine in a jar

Reading a superb book Nothing Special by Charlotte Joko Beck. Clear instructions and insights on zen meditation practise. Also read a beautiful book recently which is a moving read, Kitchen table Wisdom by Rachel Naomi Remen. Highly recommend it.

Thanks Karmann - it is about her own childhood. Like GJ, I love a good biography - auto or otherwise. Her writing is almost like poetry in places.

Last night I read A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I stayed up way too late because I had to finish it. Compared to the Kite Runner, I think I liked the Kite Runner marginally better, but it was still an excellent read. Definately worth the dark circles under my eyes today.

More Coffee Please.

I'm reading The Heart of Yoga. Very interesting. I'm learning the importance of breathing during yoga, various counterposes, and interesting stuff about yoga that I didn't know about such as the "branches" of yoga.

My copies of 'true Meditation' and 'Emptiness dancing' by Adyashanti arrived today (all the way from San Francisco), so I'll be reading these this week.

On first glance, they look excellent.

I'm reading "The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Experience" by Sally Kempton/Swami Durgananda. It's required for the Anusara immersion. What strikes me the most about it (and I'm only 30 pages in) is her intense and joyful love for meditation, playful almost. Fascinating.
