A lot of people, myself included, ask a lot about breathing techniques. Do you think we should make a forum topic just for breathing/pranayama practice,

No, they should be learnt from a teacher, not a forum. Jonathon

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | Nevertheless, jonnie, there is a lot of discussion. Would it be helpful to have it in a separate section?
| |||
i don't know. i mean, maybe we should have a section just for me to talk about october j, since i talk about him so much. or maybe not. i think it's good enough to keep it here for now--i prefer a place that's streamlined--but then, i wouldn't have a problem with a separate section either.

Seriously, I think there are too many topics right now, we could use some consolidation. I usually read everything, where something is is completely unimportant to me.

jonnie - 2007-08-22 9:09 AM No, they should be learnt from a teacher, not a forum. Jonathon So that means for everything else that's discussed here, it's OK to learn those things from a forum? Consolidation of discussion topics is a good idea. Maybe there should be a separate section where every response is "go find a teacher."

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. Tubeseeker has been asking a lot of 'how to' questions recently (which is fine) and I interpreted his post incorrectly, which was my mistake. I think it's perfectly ok to dicuss breathing/pranayama on the forum, but not teach it. There are also definately topics to which the answer should be "go find a teacher". Jonathon

How about making a decision on this relative to actual data. Could/would someone please tally the number of pranayama questions in the last six months? In this way we could determine whether there is a "need". If there is no data and the post here is to just determine if each person thinks it's a good idea...I personally think there are enough categories on the forum as it is.

just a thought to put out there, if this a a yoga site, and is going to have 20 different topics, then to make 8 topics the 8 limbs of yoga would make sense?

On that line, I feel that : Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, Anusara, and Hatha, all these should be combined into one. Then, we should have two sections: Yoga Exercises and Yoga Breathing And some more Yoga Meditation, Yoga Chanting, Yoga Mystics, etc. You can tally yourself to see how many people ask and discuss topics which demand combination of the items mentioned in the first line (actually, second) above.

ok, blog or no, then there should be a "October J section" then. i'm trying to figure out the blog thing. i can't wrap my head around it. not easily at least.

Location: Upstate NY | I do like the idea of having the forum layout in that of the eight limbs also..........a condensed, but more rounded forum..... Edited by Ravi 2007-08-24 3:24 PM

I don't care what we do, I just want to be an "expert yogi" before we abandon ship with this forum.

I feel a little embarassed by the 'expert Yogi' title, because I wouldn't really consider myself an expert at anything, especially Yoga. I'd prefer just a post count. Regarding the forum. IF it was being restructured, then my personal choice would be to remove the 'massage' and 'fitness' sections and streamline the 'wellness' part and I'd combine the various 'styles' under one heading of Raja/Hatha Yoga. I'd like to add a Mantra/chanting section and a Kriya Yoga section, though that's only my personal opinion. Jonathon

i'm also glad that everyone has agreed to an official October J section . . .

i'd say rabbits are tantrists in some ways, jains in others. . .very mystical creatures really.

I think Tubeseeker has a good point... All the different practices of asana would be lumped together instead of the increasing list of "styles" of asana (ie Ashtanga etc. etc...it goes on endessly like cereal brands...) Love Soul
