| Hi
I would like to become an accredited qualified Yoga teacher to be able to teach worldwide.
What qualification do I need and how long do they usually take?
I understand there are courses in India for 4-6 weeks. Are these accredited to teach worldwide?

| Dear Heike:
I shall give you a very good suggestion in this matter. What you do is:
- List the Health Clubs you will like to teach at, as an example. Say 10 different ones.
- Then ask the Yoga Class manager of those clubs what qualifications they would like from a Yoga Teacher if they want to hire one.
- That shall give you real answer. Otherwise, everyone is accredited in the field of Yoga!
If you need personal help, PM me. Some of my students are the managers of such clubs. I do not teach there.

| Accredited with whom?
There is the Yoga Alliance but I do not perceive them as an accrediting body. Rather a registry and gatekeeper. There are some international bodies such as the Inernational Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). And of course there are some lengthy programs (and some shorter ones) ranging from 18 hours to 2,000+ hours. But I do not believe there's a global accreditation. One either knows one's stuff or convinces others that they do. |

| as others have mentioned, there isn't an international accrediting body.
your best bet is to do your yoga, find teachers who resonate with you, and train with them. they can certify you in their own ways, and then you will begin to teach. |
