Subject: Yoga excercises - neck pain

I always seem to get neck pain (almost every day)
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for daily excercises please

I am intending on starting a class but cannot find the time at the moment
I tried Pilates but could not take to it

Many thanks

Hello Rick

it is most helpful when posing a therapeutic question like yours to delve a bit into the human being we are working with.

Just as there is an intake form and interview at the doctor's office so too do we need your vitals in order to point you properly.

Age, weight, fitness level, background of health, the place and frequency of your pain, when it feels worse and when it feels better are all necessary variables to the equation.

We do one called laser pointer.

You lay down on your back and imagine that you have a laser pointer attached to the tip of your nose. (like Pinocchico) You trace a small cirlce on the celing. say the size of a silver dollar. then you go around the other way. The movements are very small but it isolates the muscles in your neck.

Purna is right - yoga is individual - and using it as a therapy is particularly individual.

That being said - I just watched viniyoga therapy for the upper back, neck and shoulders - a DVD by Gary Kraftsow - I felt an incredible release in by my upper back - it was like getting a massage. However - I do not have a specific problem - and I did the full practice that is meant for healthy people - so this may not apply to you.

Best wishes.
Vicki
