| Hi Everyone
i want to know about the following posture: I'm referring to the pose that is a squat with the knees out at 90 degrees, ankles below knees . . .
Now, I can't do this worth a **** . . . and I know that it's due to tight hips, but I'm sure there is another detail involved; for example, the Adductors in the groin region?
Could someone offer any suggestions on how to loosen those up? I'm not looking for hip opening postures . . . but something for the abductors (I think)
Thanks . . |

(cute story, my friend taught a kids class, and the kid went home to mom saying "we did such cool poses like eagle pose and mountain pose and worrier pose.") |

| Your glutes help stabilize in "goddess" or "mood goddess" as I've also heard it called.
See what your hips do in Warrior 2, many people arch their back and essentially stick their butt out. The more you can contract the glutes (and the rectus abdominus) in Warrior 2 to stack your hips under your shoulders the more strength you develop to support in goddess.
And yes, it is also opening the adductors, but do open there you also need strong abduction support, which the medial glute assists with.
Also, change the angle of your toes, so they don't turn out as far and you can keep good alignment between your knee and ankle.
No, in malasana the hips go back, whereas in goddess (at least as I've learned it) the hips stay stacked under the shoulders. |
