Subject: Emotional demands of 2nd

series...

A few weeks back, a substitute teacher was in charge of mysore while the regular teacher was on vacation. I know her quite well from led classes, and she asked me whether my regular teacher had started me on second series yet, since she believes that I'm ready, "both physically and emotionally". She mentioned that "a lot of stuff goes on" when you get into second series, and that a student needs to be prepared for that as much as physically.

I haven't started 2nd yet, and doubt I will any time soon , but her comment made me curious. Anyone here have any first hand experience with moving onto second and the mental shift it is said to produce? Nadi shodana - nerve cleansing - doesn't really tell me much, and most ashtanga books out there tend to focus on primary series (which is now very dear to my heart, so really I'm in no hurry to start forging ahead into intermediate).

cheers,

lisa
