Subject: A question

Hi Yogis,
I have a question that may sound funny but let me put it anyways.

How many of you have experienced _real_ Samadhi? How you know that it is Samadhi and not just Dhyana? I know theoretical details about it from Patanjali Sutras but theory is always theory. So I am checking with yogis here.

You may say - "Why not experience yourself by practicing?". I know that is the best way but I am relatively beginner level practitioner and so want to know from advanced practitioners of Yoga.

Several of my teachers talk about having glimpses of samadhi. They have mostly been practicing over 30 years.

Dear Gauri: The problem with answering your question for anyone is:

You are going to ask next, how that experience feels or description of that experience.

And, the real problem is: Real Samadhi experience can not be described except what is already given by the sage Patanjali:

tadevvarthamaatranirbhaasam svaruupashuunyamiva samaadhiH. Chapter 3.

You may like to watch all my 18 DVDs on Patanjali to get full understanding. Or just get Chapter 1 and Chapter 3 DVDs.

Now, to answer you further: If you understand what Patanjali is saying, you shall find that many Yoga Practitioners (sincere ones!) experience various levels of Samadhi (also described in the Patanjali Sutras) during their practice.

ken wilber calls these "glimpses" as "tastes" you get a "taste" of it during various practices, at varying levels.

and, i think patanjali does a better job at describing anything that i've glimpsed or tasted than i can. LOL
