| Hello everybody!
I am new to Ashtanga and am really looking forward to my first 1-2-1 class tomorrow.
A bit about myself.
I am currently 193cm and 104kilos at present. I have lost 20kilos over the last 7-8 weeks and have done this with running and changing to a pescatarian diet.
I am really interested to see how Ashtanga is going to improve my physical and mental health. I am looking to lose another 15-20kilos and to tone my body. I am also looking to improve certain attitudes towards life as I have just overcome major depression and OCD.
Any tips you have for a newbie would be gratefully received :-) |

| Hi Burtie,
It sounds like you have already had some important changes.
The best advice I can give regarding ashtanga is to take things slow and try to think long term. Never rush the practice. You'll dive in deeper when your body is ready to receive if you move slow and dont' force it.
You can injury yourself, so just be slow and careful.

| I do not think you are a good candidate for Ashtanga Yoga Style Exercise. Actually, only Yoga Exercise is NOT sufficient for what you are trying to achieve as I understand.

Thanks for the advice. Looking at all the videos that I have seen on youtube - I really hope that we will be taking it slow at first. I have my running when I want to get a bit of speed |

| Thanks for asking. Please see all my posting on this thread in the past. You shall find the answer. It will not be a lot of work, because there are not too many. But, to be brief: I read what your current situation is, what you are looking for, and I have more than sufficient experience to state that: 100 percent, AY style exercise is not meant for you. You should take a different kind of customized exercise. Also, you shall need to address other factors such as Diet.
I wish you all the best.
