Subject: Malasana from Dandasana

Has anyone got the teaching instructions for going into Malasana from Dandasana please?

A friend is doing her first Iyengar assessment on Saturday and this is the one thing missing from her notes. She knows it's covered in endless detail in Light on yoga but is looking for info at the basic level.

Thanks,

Fee

Hi Fee - in my assessment malasana (at Intro I or II level) the pose is taught from standing and students can use a support. Coming out of the pose goes to dandasana by sitting, then extending the legs out. These things are supposed to be the same internationally, but I guess there are going to be little quirks here and there.

If I were going to teach from dandasana, I suppose I would go through baddhakonasana then to malasana, back to baddha and out into dandasana. But she should check with her mentor teacher to find out how it should be taught.

The main thing is not to complicate things, teach simply and clearly and not try to put in anything new. Remember that when people are nervous all their bad habits have a tendency to pop up! Wish her luck for me.

Thanks for the info! I've e-mailed my pal with your answer so fingers crosed. I could onl y find it done from other squat poses or from chair pose in my books / on-line.

Regards,

Fiona
