Subject: Foot Injury

Foot surgery 2 years ago. Yoga beginner in January 08. Hatha. Love it. My podiatrist said I really should wear an athletic shoe with my orthotic inserts. I didn't have a stress fracture, thankfully, but a lot of stress wear on my instep and ankle. Any recommendations for shoes? When I struggle with a position, it is my feet that are the problem.

Shoes should be as recommended by Surgeon or by an experienced private teacher, not a general opinion from the internet. Exercise to be done with foot should also be learnt privately.

As Neel so accurately points out, these sorts of things are specific to the person, foot, issue, and practice and need to be cultivated in person.

Yes, you are correct, and I am very pleased that my podiatrist who also did the surgery recommended that I wear an athletic shoe with my insert. He and I had a good discussion that there are no yoga specific shoes and that athletic shoes might be too clunky. Regardless, my foot instep needs that support so I will wear my power walking shoes that are also orthopedic approved. I left this info out to be efficient in my original request.

Does anyone know of a shoe that fits this need that is working for them? I can also run that by my foot specialist. Thanks so much for your guidance and concern.
