Subject: Sivananda and Krishnamacharya yoga differences

I know the two major lineages of hatha yoga are Sivananda and Krishnamacharya (please correct me if I am mistaken). Could someone please tell me the differnces between the types, or are they essentially similar?

philosophy, similar; alignment and sometimes the names of postures, different.

both are equally beneficial though. that is, you get the same awesome benefits either way. i prefer krishnamacharya lineage for alignment, personally, but my current "primary" teacher is of the sivananada lineage and so i have no problem bouncing between or utilizing the two.

try both, see what you think.

The Sivananda style(using it rather broadly) is the more classical style and sticks much more closely to poses and practices from ancient texts. It is the Sivananda style Bihar School of Yoga for example that rediscovered the practice of Yoga Nidra from ancient texts.
Krishnamacharya's style is more dynamic and includes the concept of vinyasa or breath synced movement from pose to pose which he seems to have developed. It also includes the more athletic style practiced by the Jois Asthangi's with some potential influences from western gymnastic routines and Indian martial arts. Krishnamacharya himself seems to have intended this form only for some people(youngsters) and for a certain time and generally followed a very individualised approach.
He is also said to have publicly berated Jois and Iyengar for placing too much focus on the physical aspects of yoga.
