hi everyone-
i just started doing bikram 3 weeks ago after two years of baptiste power yoga (moved cities) and am already noticeably more toned and feel balanced emotionally. while i am crazy over bikram's it doesn't have an abs series like power yoga does.
i'm wondering if you yogi's add crunches etc in addition to the bikram class or if you find that the bikram asanas do tone your belly?

hi there, welcome to the forums!

we just kinda wrapped up a pretty detailed discussion about bikram yoga and "core strength" - check out Angelica's thread titled "bikram yoga and core strength" a little ways down the page. i shared a link to a new york times article that had some REALLY interesting information about crunches and ab workouts.

and to answer your question directly, i find that the bikram series tones my entire body!! this includes my stomach. the yoga will tone the internal muscles first, which are the most important ones, so you won't necessarily see six-pack abs right away, but you will get all the strengthening that you need.
