I'm not really sure I can offer any "guidance" per se, but I can tell you that one of the hardest things for me has been letting go of the notion that practice is supposed to "progress." There is no upwards, lateral, straight line progression, at least from what I've seen and heard. It's really about expectations: meeting them and leaving them on the mat!
