I have trouble with a trapezius issue
It prevents me from taking much weight in my bikram stirrup in Dandeyaman Janushirasana etc but my overiding problem is relaxing my neck and letting the bikram postures do their stuff.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can improve this? Its seems an odd request but even in half tortoise I have teacher coming over to help me keep my shoulders away from neck but when arms are above the shoulder, i find it hard despite trying to elevate from the deltoid area.
Any thoughts or tales of similar experience welcome.
Thanks so much guys
Pete

I also have shoulder issues, but fortunately have found a former Bikram studio that is very much focused on modifications and figuring our your personal body puzzle.

I don't personally know an answer to your problem, but in half tortoise I modify by starting on my knees. It lets me put more of my weight forward and hits more of my upper back than shoulders when my body comes down.

I also use the shit out of standing and floor bow on stretching my shoulders back and down. It feels great. I also have been focusing on poses that stretch my upper middle back between my scapulae. Standing right angle, standing forehead to knee, seated head to knee... I don't focus on the pull with my arms and shoulders but breathe into my upper middle back.

At least that works for me. My reluctant shoulders I think are mostly from adhered scpaulae. As that area releases, my shoulders drop more.
