I am thinking about trying Bikram yoga. I have never done yoga in my life and I will admit that I am pretty out of shape and about 30 IBS overweight. It is my New Years resolution to get healthy and active. An acquaintance of mine told me that she has been doing Yoga and specifically Bikram Yoga for years and she loves it. She told me that it would be good for a beginner and that she has even taken her 75 year old Grandmother to class. Is bikram yoga ok for beginners? Some of what I have read on here is scaring me away from trying it. I remember a few years back taking an aerobics class that was said to be good for beginners and looking like a complete fool as obviously there were no beginners in the class. I am very interested to hear other peoples honest opinions on this.

Thanks,
Jewels.

The concept of Bikram is that it is wonderful for beginners, but the reality is that, depending on the studio and the class, you may feel comfortable or not in your first class. I would check out the studio that you are planning on trying and then contact them and ask if they have intro classes for people who have never done yoga. You might also want to try some other types of yoga classes for beginners. Bikram is one kind of yoga, but there are many other types. If you try enough different classes, you'll find one that suits your needs perfectly. Don't give up if the heat or intensity of Bikram is not for you.

Namaste!
