The Story of the Third Eye and the Heart

Once, in the body of a human there was a third eye.

The third eye was very different from the two physical eyes. It did not look like the physical eyes, it just looked like skin. But it was very much an eye, sitting right in the middle of the forehead.  Its purpose was to see the Light and the Truth in the heart. It also had the ability to see any clouds that were in the way of fully living that truth in the life of the human. The physical eyes were very good at seeing the outer world. They could see trees and flowers, rocks and oceans….all the objects of the outer world. But it was difficult for them to see the Light; to see the Divinity in all things.

The third eye had a special purpose. It was designed to see the Divine.

However, one day, something very sad happened. The third eye fell into disuse. The humans forgot about the third eye and the third eye forgot to see the Divine. The humans started to forget about the Divine. Some humans even believed that there was no such thing as the Divine. The humans became more and more lost and more and more sad. However, a strange thing began to happen. They actually thought they were happy. They invented all sorts of things so that they would not realize how sad they really were. They invented TV, radio, shopping, parties, traveling…The really enjoyed all the things they invented, which was wonderful, but they forgot to experience the Divine in those things.

They forgot to see the Divine in each other, in the plants, in the clothes they wore, even in the other places they visited.

So, they started doing strange things. They started treating the things they bought badly. They would throw them in a corner. When they took off their clothes to get ready for bed, they would throw them on the floor. They began to scream at each other because they no longer realized that that person was the Divine, just like them. They did not care if they hurt the other person. They had completely forgotten that deep inside the heart, that they were the same Light as that person. They started to cut down all the trees in the forest to make paper and boards. They did not feel the sadness of the trees and the earth because they had forgotten how to see the Divine in the trees and the earth.

Then one day, the third eye in a few humans started to wake up. However, a very sad and strange thing happened, even though the third eye was starting to wake up, it had forgotten its purpose; to see the Divine in the heart. Many problems were created.  The third eye began to see all kinds of thing that weren’t the truth, because it had forgotten that the Truth was in the Light in the heart center. Many humans began to believe these people whose third eye was waking up. The humans seemed to think that because this person sees more than I do, they must be right. They did not even think to ask them where they were getting that information. It seems that almost everybody had forgotten about the Light that holds the Truth, living deep in the heart center.

One day, one human remembered….”oh; yeah…I think this third eye is supposed to look at the Light in the heart center”. She had the courage to begin to teach other humans what she had realized. Other humans began to practice this and they realized that she was right. That it just felt right. That it even felt like perhaps they should have been doing this all along; and that, perhaps if they had been doing this all along, life would not have become so difficult and painful.

Once the third eye gave itself to the Divine in the heart, an amazing thing happened. Once again, almost as if the physical eyes and the third eye could see together. The eyes began to see the Divine in everything; absolutely everything. Not only the eyes, but the whole human became truly happy, because once again, it realized that it was not alone; that it was also the Divine and part of everything.
